I am especially interested in historical development of the landscape in the Spessart region. With specific knowledge in geomorphology and soils, my PhD research at the University of Würzburg focuses on the late Cretaceous, Tertiary up to the Quarternary periods. Extreme weathering and erosion activities under tropical-like climates in this period are very important for the geological basis of landscape development. My field work is concentrated on describing visible examples within the landscape, which show the geomorphological processes of this recent period of earth history.

For the Archaeological Spessart-Project, I am responsible for the GIS-system, the so-called Spessart-GIS. The aim of the project is a GIS-based analysis of the developing cultural landscape of the Spessart region. Data from natural and cultural sciences, which are connected with the Spessart area, are pooled, modelled and processed within the GIS-database.

The Spessart-GIS is located in the Research Station for Central European Highlands, which is a part of the scientific Research Institute Senckenberg. In the fieldstation scientists are studying the biodiversity of fossil or recent flora and fauna of upland regions, with a special focus on the Spessart area.

GIS is an excellent tool for connecting natural and cultural sciences, which are both represented by the Archaeological Spessart-project and the Research Institute Senckenberg.
