ARCHEOS, Unit for archaeology and ancient monuments, Prachatice

ARCHEOS, a unit for archaeology and ancient monuments is an independent non-profit organization which was founded in 1997. ARCHEOS was the second private archaeological company to come into existence in the Czech Republic. The headquarters of the organization are in Prachatice, Nebahovská 1016. The South Bohemian Fieldwork Centre at Vlachovo Březí is situated in the beautiful surroundings of Vlachovo Brezi chateaux near the town square. The West Bohemian Fieldwork Centre is situated in a private mill in Hradiste u Blatne in Pilsen-South district. There is also a small branch of the company in Prague. The company logo resulted from the chance discovery of a medieval, golden ducat, from the reign of Emperor Sigismund Luxembourg, which came to light during the first excavations carried out by ARCHEOS in 1998 at Orlík nad Vltavou chateaux. The flip-side of this coin from the 1530´s depicts St. Ladislav as the patron saint of the Greater Hungarian crown with an axe and the royal apple.
