CADW: Welsh Historic Monuments

CADW: Welsh Historic Monuments is an executive agency of the National Assembly for Wales responsible for carrying out the Assembly’s statutory duties to record, protect and help conserve historic buildings and ancient monuments throughout Wales. It compiles lists of buildings of special architectural or historic interest and provides grants towards their repair. It also maintains a Schedule of Ancient Monuments of national importance; controls work to these sites; provides grants and enters into management agreements to assist with their long-term preservation and funds programmes of archaeological work (generally through the four Welsh Archaeological Trusts) to record archaeological sites under threat and to provide advice to local planning authorities. Cadw is also responsible for the conservation, presentation and marketing of 130 historic sites directly in the care of the National Assembly for Wales.
