Culture 2000 Project - Historic Landscapes

As part of the outreach programme of this historic landscape project a survey was undertaken at Beacon Fell Country Park in June 2002. The survey revealed that the most popular locations for visitors were not surprisingly Beacon Fell, the Vale of Loud, Pendle, Bleasdale and the Bowland Fells. Perhaps unexpectedly the perceived main threat to the landscape were farming and planting of conifers. Considering the fact that Beacon Fell is largely conifer plantation there appears to be some contradictory responses to questions asked.

However, in favour of the work the AONB team is doing in identifying important boundaries in the AONB, stone-walls were identified as key features of the landscape alongside track ways and woodland. Further surveys will take place in High Bentham in 2002.
