After one year of planning and consolidation, the Learning Region Main-Kinzig+Spessart was launched into its implementation phase. As a "Network for Education" numerous educational projects will now come into realisation and/or further developed. Within the "Learning Regions - supporting networking" development programme, the Learning Region Main-Kinzig+Spessart now belongs to the 40 conceptual proposals, which were recommended for implementation by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, FMER (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF). The implementation of all 40 programmes is funded by the FMER and the European Social Fund (Europäischer Sozialfonds) with a proposed 59,7 mio. EUR over the next four years. Today there are over 25 partners who have come together to start networking across market sectors and sponsorship borders.

One of the keystones is the project "Training qualified culture and landscape guides", which was initiated by the Archaeological Spessart Project.

The training programme for culture and landscape guides is aimed at those people who presently find themselves in a period of change in their life (the unemployed, job seekers, pensioners) and are experiencing structural shortcomings (part-time employment due to caring for children and family, people with low income possibilities). The aim of the project is to offer these people a professional perspective, which takes into consideration their life situation. The programme offers employment opportunities on the one hand and promotes and strengthens tourism in the region by offering professional culture and landscape guides on the other. Through close networking between the trained guides amongst one another and with the tourist services offered in the region, marketing can be more closely oriented at customer demands.

The project aims at qualifying people who are already involved in the cultural or tourism industry or those who are looking for a new, communicative occupation. The qualification programme of set up in modules: in interdisciplinary educational seminars with six modules each, the necessary general proficiency, cultural knowledge and professional skills are mediated.

The present model plans on including and involving important organisations from the education, economic support and tourism sectors into the education process. The hereby built-up network will then be used to place the guides into jobs. This approach ensures that the newly trained guides find jobs where they can put their newly acquired skills to good use.

By training culture and landscape guides and through their networked placements into jobs an attractive touristic offer is provided, which takes into account already existing structures and parallel developed initiatives like the Cultural Path network of the Archaeological Spessart Project. The tight involvement of existing and future tourism establishments, hotels and restaurants will ensure a widespread positive influence.
