Context
The meeting was organized by the Hellenic Republic Ministry of Culture Direction of European Affairs. As one of the multi-annual cooperation agreements, which had taken financial support from the EC program Culture 2000 during the period 2000-2002, also the chairman of the PCL was invited there.
The meeting took take place in Athens, at Zappeion Megaron, on the 4th April. It was held in continuance of the initiative taken by the European Commission, which organized the Forum on Cultural Cooperation in Europe (Brussels, 21-22/11/2001). It aimed at the reinforcement and enhancement of cultural cooperation in Europe through the construction of viable cultural networks that assure creativity and a multi-annual sectorial approach in the field of culture, promoting high quality projects with European added value. It also aspired to continue, enhance and establish an intercultural dialogue, as well as to specifically recognize culture as a means to social integration and cohesion.
For us it was very impressive to realize the enormous band width of the different projects that are participating on Culture 2000. Some contacts taken there will be very helpful for our further work.
