Orlfk nad Vltavou - the Hallstatt hill fort

It is another of the Hallstatt hill forts and highland settlements delimiting the investigated region. The hill fort is situated 550 m. NE of Orlfk Chateaux, on a rocky spur above the flooded valley on the left bank of the Vltava river. It is shaped like an acute triangle with its main axis running NNE-SSW, it is around 2ha in area.

The terrain falls off in terraces down to the bank of the reservoir. It lies between 20 - 30m above the present-day surrounding terrain. The extended ridge of the rocky spur seems to have been fortified with two short boulders constructed features, protecting the actual summit area of the hill fort. The internal rampart evidently also continues on the opposite NW slope. The rampart is of stone construction, mixed with earth. Only a test sondage has been carried out within the area of the hill fort. During this work ceramic material was recovered which dates the hill fort to the HaD/LtA and later La Tene periods.
