The castle of Blatna

The castle, converted into chateaux, is situated on a tributary of the Lomnice River on an island. It ranks among the few Bohemian castles, which are situated in an aquatic environment. It was built in the 13th century on a cliff in the plain of the Blatenska Basin. The remains of a chapel have been preserved from the late Romanesque phase of the castle. Before the year 1400 it came into the property of the lords of Rozmital. Its further development was neglected until the 15th century, when it was gradually enlarged. In the time of Zdehek Lev of Rozmital it was converted into a Renaissance seat. At the end of the 16th century Jan of Rozdrazova took over the chateaux and the Blatenska lordship. His line held the chateaux until the end of the 17th century. From 1798 the chateaux and lordship of Blatna belonged to the family of Hildprant of Ottenhausen. An extensive and picturesque park, which is an excellent example of the merging of a natural landscape with an aristocratic seat, belongs to the chateaux.
